We recommend that our clients keep a first aid kit to help respond to emergencies before the veterinarian can arrive.
Essential Documents:
- Veterinarian’s number by each phone, including emergency numbers
- Back-up or referring veterinarian’s number
- Directions and phone number of equine referral surgery clinic
- Names and phone numbers of nearby friends and neighbors who can assist you in an emergency while you wait for the veterinarian
- Names and phone numbers of haulers available to transport your horse, if you do not own your own trailer, if your horse needs to go to the hospital (You don’t know how frustrating it is trying to find a ride for your horse at 2:00am if you are not prepared!!)
